How the Contender game climbed out of 40K in debt.

How many copies of your game should you print based on your Kickstarter?

What DIY marketing methods work to sell more copies of your game and what is a waste of time and money?

The guys from the Contender learned the answers to these questions the hard way. Their follow up article is worth your valuable time to learn from their mistakes.

How we turned $140k on Kickstarter into $40k in debt. And how we broke even.

Learn to Play Mystic Vale at 9 Bay Area game stores.

This weekend, Brian from AEG will be demoing Mystic Vale at a bunch of bay area game stores. Mystic Vale uses an interesting new mechanic were you craft or construct cards using transparent overlays. This novel mechanic is backed up by a great game with some elements of press your luck, deck building and a tech tree. Worth your time to check it out. If you like the game you can pre-order it from your FLGS before its release in a few weeks.

9 sources of images and artwork for game prototypes.

Top 9 sources of images and artwork for game prototypes.

Do you need some place holder artwork to make your game prototype look more attractive to play testers? I have personally found the following nine websites to be most useful when dressing up my own prototypes.

1. TheNounProject.com

Easily searchable. Great for both artwork and icons. Use an icon for free with attribution, pay $1 per icon to use without attribution. Or pay $10 a month for unlimited use of all icons.

2. Game-Icons.net

2133 game focused icons. Vector and PNG available under Creative Commons.

3. National Gallery of Art

http://www.nga.gov/content/ngaweb/Collection/collection-search.html

The US government owns a lot of art. Most of it has been scanned or photographed and is available free to use via the search system linked here.

4. The British Library

Over a million copyright free images taken from books prior to 1900 on Flickr.
